Missing Pet

Immediately report a missing pet! Your pet may already be in the care of Animal Control but has not been processed for posting to the Lost/Found site. Arrange a time with Animal Control to physically view the animals in their care. It is often very difficult to be sure whether or not an animal matches a caller’s description. Search the City of Warrenton Facebook page to see photos and information on animals that have been processed and are held at the shelter. Check often! Animals come in daily, but are typically in shelter possession for only two weeks.

Found Pet

If you found a lost pet, contact Animal Control for pick up or to arrange a time for drop off at the shelter. 636-456-8707. After business hours, call Central Dispatch 636-456-7088

Adoption

There is a $50 fee to adopt an animal at the Warrenton Animal Shelter. Adopters are given a voucher for 25% off spay or neuter at the Warrenton Veterinary Clinic unless the animal has already been spayed or neutered. Visit the Found Pets page for animals available for adoption. It is the responsibility of the Adopter to spay or neuter the animal within 30 days of adoption. Proof of spay or neuter from a licensed veterinarian will be required. Animal Control Officers will follow up if no response has been received within this time period.

Please note:
The City of Warrenton works closely with local animal rescue groups. In certain cases the needs of the animal necessitate the care of that animal be turned over to an approved Department of Agriculture rescue group and may not be available for adoption through the city. The well being of the animals in Animal Control’s care take precedence.

Owner Relinquish

Owner relinquishes are accepted. Please call the shelter at 636-456-8707 for more information.

Licensing

No City Animal License is required to own a pet.
Proof of current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is mandatory. By ordinance, the rabies tag must be attached to the animal’s collar. For more information view the City of Warrenton Animal Regulations.

Traps

A limited amount of traps are available on loan only to city residents for the purpose of capturing stray and feral cats within city limits.

Wildlife

Please, just leave the animal alone. It will continue on with the nature of its business. The City of Warrenton is not legally equipped to handle, licensed to trap, relocate, or dispose of wildlife. If you do require assistance, contact the MO Department of Conservation or a licensed wildlife removal service for help.

Donations

Donations are accepted. Please contact the animal shelter for a current list of items needed. Regular priority needs are: Cat litter, litter boxes, dish soap, bleach, liquid laundry detergent, paper towels, Kongs® or other heavy duty toys the large dogs cannot destroy, and gift certificates to animal supply stores are especially welcomed. Needs are changing constantly depending on the season and the current resident animals, so please call. Thank you, for making whiskers purr and tails wag!

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks. For insurance purposes, volunteers must be 18 years of age and fill out a City of Warrenton volunteer job application.  For the safety of the volunteers and the animals, volunteers will go through a tiered training system. This is to quantify the volunteer’s ability to handle specific level tasks required to have contact with the animals in our care. Animal care tasks can range from cleaning their area, socializing, walking, grooming, feeding and fostering the animals.
